Accidental Billionaires made "Social Network" the Movie

“You don’t get 500 million friends, without making a few enemies” – sounds familiar. Well, this is the tagline for the movie “Social Network”, which happens to be cinematic adaptation of the book Accidental Billionaires. The book revolves around lives of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and his mate Eduardo Saverin. The book is written by Ben Mezrich and is mainly about the lives and times of the founders of Facebook.
Set in Harvard University, both Mark and Eduardo increasingly difficult to find social acceptance. Eduardo goes and joins the “Final Club” at Harvard, while Mark makes his website to rate girls in the college on their looks. Suddenly, Mark finds himself at odds with the College management. This unusual development gets attention from his seniors the Winklewoss twins and Divya Narandra, who themselves were trying their hand at developing their own website. Three of them convince Mark to join them, but the association does not last long. Mark separates from the trio due to creative conflicts and starts work on his own website – thefacebook.com. First half of the story is set in the Harvard Campus and the second half in the Silicon Valley.
The book makes for a fun read, but does not give a concrete ending. The litigation on whether Facebook was Mark’s original idea, still remains to be seen and the matter is in the courts. Meanwhile, Facebook continues to grow and both Mark and Euardo own 24% and 5% of the total equity in Facebook respectively.
