At times nature makes sure it creates circumstances that can seem like the perfect prelude to an impeding disaster. All circumstances, all conditions and all variables seem like well-positioned to create a perfect conditions for a perfect disaster. The protagonist of the movie is the storm, which has a magnitude of more than after repeated warnings the a resistant crew, goes ahead with the expedition and but after some time the crew realises that the refrigeration system of the ship has gone haywire and there is a need to climb back as soon as possible. At the height of their fishing expedition, the ice machine breaks down, the only way sell their catch is to hurry back to the shore. In between the expedition, the ship catches a rogue wave and gets entangled into the force of the wave and loosing one crew man in the process. They try really hard in getting, their catch across the shore before the stocks go bad. The perfect storm covers the strange phenomena of two cold-under currents which confluence, changing the above weather patterns in the area to make highly susceptible to raising tornadoes in the adjoining sea. Their entire ship gets toppled by a rogue wave and this forms the basic premise of the plot and how the crew survives the storm makes up for the chunk of the movie.
