Collection of Short Stories by Roald Dahl

Roald Dahl was an Englishman born in Cardiff, England. The man started his life as a fighter pilot after having excelled in sports & games at school level. Although his first job that earned him money was that of distributing kerosene in the village he was born to. The boy grew up and stood an impressive 6ft 6inches as an adult to excel in both games and sports at the school level. He even represented his school at various inter-school events to coming out with flying colours. These probably promoted the young Roald to enrol into the AirForce. It was not a co-incidence that he went on to excel as fighter pilot and rose to the rank of a Wing Commander before he finally bid adieu to his life as an Airman. His third phase of his life, which brought him all the success and fame incidentally, came from an area there was no need for brawn, but there was need for brain. He took up the mantle of a writer. Curiously, a writer known today for his adult stories and dark humour – started his first original work as a children’s writer to produce the book called Gremlins. Gremlins were part of RAF folklore and were blamed by all the pilots for incidents involving aeroplanes. This was just the beginning and he followed up this feat many other books like – James and the Giant Peach, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Matilda, The Witches and The Big Friendly Giant. But, the most famous title, which Dahl will always be known for would be Charlie and Chocolate Factory. The book has been adapted numerous times by Hollywood and continues to remain a popular among kids of all ages. The writer was known for his extremes, apart from being a good writer – he established a parallel career for writing macabre short stories. He wrote short stories for Ladies Home Journal, Playboy & The New Yorker. Roald Dahl carried on this passion to the literary world and came out with full-fledged books with stories with a dark twist of humour.
